Long before peonies bloom, the planning, garden prep, and purchasing of roots begins. The season, with its vibrant colors and smells begin with a plan, purpose, and root stock. The plant takes three years, after planting, to be fully mature and at max capacity of blooms. Peonies require patience, but they will reward and delight every year following, for generations.
My root sale begins on July 15 at 8 am CST. The varieties are carefully selected for qualities of an excellent cut flower; with a long vase life and strong stem. The semi double varieties include Coral Charm, Duchesse de Nemours, and Bowl of Beauty. The full double varieties include Kansas, Felix Supreme, Sarah Bernhardt, Gardenia, and Bowl of Cream. Check them out here.
I am a boutique sized peony farmer; root stock is limited and sells out quickly. I recommend making purchases early on the 15th to secure the varieties that interest you. Roots will be prepared in September with shipment or pick up the first week in October. Upon checkout, you will have the option to choose flat rate shipping or pickup at my home in Lenexa. Purchases can be made here.
A detailed planting guide is available here. Written instruction and illustration are also provided with purchase. Videos and images as well as 'how-to's" are available on my social sites and on my YouTube channel. As always, I'm happy to help answer questions.
I hope this post finds you well, and enjoying the colors, sounds, and smells of summer. I love what each season gives us, it's only there for a moment. Very soon, it'll be fall and time to plant.
xoxoxo. Julie
